Greulich
Background: He is retired after having worked
in education for 50 years. Greulich was a teacher as well as an
administrator. He taught at public schools and at the college level.
Volunteer title: Greulich serves as the Day Usher
Coordinator.
Number of years as an Acura Classic volunteer: Greulich
has been a tournament volunteer for five years. When asked about
his experience as a volunteer at the Acura Classic, he said, “I
have never had a working relationship with such fantastic people.
We are so grateful to be part of the family. They are a great bunch.
Working with them is just a tremendous pleasure.”
Favorite Acura Classic memory: Greulich doesn’t
have a specific favorite memory, but he said, “Getting to
watch all of the players. There is so much great tennis and it’s
been a wonderful place to watch.”
Favorite tournament match: Greulich enjoys all
of the matches but watching Mary Pierce win the Acura Classic in
2005 was memorable for him.
Favorite tennis player: Lindsay Davenport.
Favorite place to play tennis: “Any place
that’s got a net and fence around it.”
Favorite place to visit: The High Sierras.
Favorite TV show: This Old House.
Favorite hobby: Playing tennis socially. He plays
five mornings a week.
Favorite musical artists: Among Greulich’s
favorites are Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Ella Fitzgerald and Count
Bassey.
Personal note: Greulich has camped and hiked the
High Sierras more than 20 times. In 1997 he climbed to the top of
Mt. Whitney, which is 14,496 above sea level. “It was physically
the most arduous thing I’ve done in my life,” Greulich
said. “I love the hiking and I love the mountains.”
