Chris Campbell

Background: Campbell has been an architect since 1991. She owns her own business, Campbell Architecture, which specializes in residential architecture.

Volunteer title: She serves as the Evening Tickets & Gates Coordinator at the Acura Classic. “We make sure everyone entering the grounds has the proper credentials or a ticket,” she said. “We try to put on a smile and make sure everyone has a good time.”

Numbers of years as tournament volunteer: The 2003 Acura Classic will mark Campbell’s sixth year as a volunteer and her fourth year as a coordinator. In past tournaments, she has served as a volunteer for court services, ushers and media.

Most memorable Acura Classic moment: According to Campbell, a brief rain delay interrupted play during the 2000 tournament. Due to the delay, a second-round afternoon match between Anna Kournikova and Lindsay Davenport did not begin until after 4 p.m. As the match ran late, there were 6,000 people watching the match in the stadium and another 6,000 people with night session tickets trying to get into the stadium.

Campbell remembers all of the volunteers pulled together and worked as a team that day to help facilitate the transition from the day session to the night session.

Favorite tournament match: The 2000 final between Venus Williams and Monica Seles, which Williams won in three sets. “I’m a big fan of Monica and Venus as well. I thought it was a great match,” Campbell said.

Favorite tennis player: Three-time Acura Classic champion, Venus Williams. “She reminds me of Chris Evert in her court demeanor,” Campbell said.

Favorite book: Any book on architecture involving Frank Lloyd Wright, one of the most influential figures in modern Western architecture who lived from 1867 to 1959.

Favorite place to visit: Campbell enjoys traveling to Kauai, Hawaii. She has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and has gone to Kauai to help build houses.

Favorite TV show: The CBS forensics team drama, C.S.I.: Crime Scene Investigation.

Favorite hobby: In addition to watching sports, Campbell likes to go kayaking.

Favorite movies: Star Wars (1977); The Empire Strikes Back (1980); The Return of the Jedi (1983); The Phantom Menace (1999) and Attack of the Clones (2002).
Favorite musical artists: Jack Johnson and Nora Jones.

Personal note: She once designed a home in Rancho Santa Fe, which later sold for $21 million.
