BARBARA HAASIS

Volunteer title : Haasis is the Acura Classic's Hospitality and Media Coordinator. She recruits and schedules volunteers for these two areas. She also assists in the volunteer orientation session held prior to the tournament.

Numbers of years as tournament volunteer : The 2006 Acura Classic will mark her 15 th year as a tournament volunteer.

Favorite Acura Classic memory : Haasis says she likes to work with people and considers herself fortunate to work with a great staff. Having played tennis since she was 12, she enjoys learning how the Acura Classic works.

Favorite tournament match : The 2003 singles final between Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin-Hardenne. Haasis described the three-set final won by Henin-Hardenne, as “exciting.”

Favorite tennis player : Kim Clijsters. “The players are very gracious with the volunteers,” Haasis said. “Clijsters has such a sunny personality. She's very friendly.”

Favorite place to play tennis : Haasis, who plays tennis three times a week, enjoys playing at a gated community in San Diego 's North County .

Favorite place to visit : Haasis likes to visit Northern California areas such as Carmel and Mendocino. She enjoys the natural beauty and openness of the area.

Favorite TV show : I Love Raymond

Favorite hobby : Her favorite hobbies are playing tennis and reading.

Favorite musical artists : Haasis, who almost always listens to music at home and in her car, enjoys listening to Michael Buble, the Canadian pop jazz singer as well as Giovanni, the piano player.

Personal note : A self-proclaimed “people” person. Haasis says she likes to take negative situations and turn them into positive situations.
