Background: De Weese is a 68-year-old retired
mechanical engineer. He resides in Carlsbad. He and his wife Gail, who serve as Directors
of Volunteers for the Acura Classic, have been married for 44 years.
Numbers of years as tournament volunteer: He
has been a volunteer for seven years.
Favorite Acura Classic memory: De Weese doesn't
watch much tennis during the tournament, but he admits he's more of a people watcher. "I
enjoy watching the people enjoying the matches."
Favorite type of book: De Weese likes to read
historical fiction.
Favorite place to visit: Alaska. "Because
of the outdoors, the water, mountains, glaciers and wildlife. It's an incredible place."
Favorite hobby: Woodworking. De Weese is currently building
a canoe. In the past, he has made pieces of wood furniture by hand as well as a computer
cabinet, a fence and a storage shed.
Favorite movie: The Sound of Music.
Favorite musical artist: De Weese enjoys music composed by
Andrew Lloyd Weber.
Personal note: De Weese became an Eagle Scout
in 1949. He is a current Boy Scout leader. He has also been a judge for the Greater San
Diego Science and Engineering Fair for the last 32 years.
