Clijsters Routs Stosur in Night Match

Top-seeded Kim Clijsters of Belgium cruised past Australian Samantha Stosur, 6-1, 6-2, in a second-round Acura Classic match on Stadium Court.

On a cool night at the La Costa Resort and Spa, Clijsters needed only 53 minutes to eliminate Stosur and advance to the third round.

The Belgian dominated the first set with the exception of the fourth game when she lost her serve for the only time in the match.

After winning the first set in 24 minutes, Clijsters held a 2-1 lead in the second set. Stosur’s serve briefly caught fire as the Australian fired three consecutive aces past Clijsters to tie the set at 2-2.

For Stosur it was the last hurrah as Clijsters quickly got back on track and won the next four games to close out the match.
