Advance to Doubles Final
Spain’s Conchita Martinez
and Virginia Ruano Pascual advanced to the 2005 Acura Classic doubles
final when Russia’s Vera Zvonareva suffered a left ankle strain.
Martinez and Ruano-Pascual advance to Sunday’s doubles final
where they will meet Daniela Hantuchova / Ai Sugiyama.
Zvonareva, playing with fellow Russian Elena Likhovtseva, held
serve to open the match Saturday afternoon on Stadium Court.
With a 1-0 lead, Zvonareva and Likhovtseva broke Ruano Pascual
to increase their lead to 2-0.
After each team held serve, Zvonareva served at 3-1, but on the
first point, twisted her left ankle and fell to the court in pain.
Zvonareva retired from the match with an ankle strain after being
checked by the WTA trainer at courtside.
