Rebounds to Eliminate Bartoli
After losing the first set
6-1 in 25 minutes, it looked like Lisa Raymond of the United States
was going to have a short stay at the 2005 Acura Classic.
But the former Acura Classic finalist rebounded strongly in her
first-round match and defeated Marion Bartoli of France, 1-6, 6-0,
6-3.
Playing on Stadium Court before a Kid’s Day crowd at the
La Costa Resort and Spa, Raymond fell behind 5-0 in the first set
before she held serve to make the score 5-1.
Bartoli went on to serve out the set in the next game.
Raymond then went on a tear and won the next 11 out of 13 games.
With a 5-3 lead in the third set, Raymond fought off one break point
and proceeded to serve out the match, which took one-hour and 32
minutes.

Sesil Karatantcheva.

- Raymond is now tied 1-1 with Bartoli in career head-to-head
meetings.
