Ousts Veteran Frazier on Stadium Court
There aren’t too many 32 year olds
playing on the women’s tennis tour these days. Amy Frazier
of the United States is one of them.
On a warm afternoon on Stadium Court, the tour veteran opened her
match with a service break and took a 5-3 lead over 11th seeded
Jelena Jankovic of Serbia in their first-round Acura Classic match.
But youth eventually won over experience at the La Costa Resort
and Spa as Jankovic gained the upper hand and went on to post a
7-5, 6-0 victory.
With the first set tied at 5-5, Jankovic held serve at love to
take a 6-5 lead and broke Frazier to win the set.
At 5-0 in the second set, Frazier served to stay in the match,
but quickly fell behind 30-15. Jankovic gained her first match point
of the afternoon when Frazier double faulted.
The match, which took one-hour and eight minutes, ended on the
next point as Frazier netted a backhand.
