Clijsters Powers Her Way Past Domachowska

It's safe to say that Kim Clijsters of Belgium is one of the most athletic players in women's professional tennis.

Clijsters showed why during Wednesday night's Acura Classic featured match on Stadium Court as she outplayed unseeded Marta Domachowska of Poland, 6-3, 6-1.

During the 49-minute, second-round match, Clijsters tracked down multiple shots and put the hard-hitting Domachowska on the defensive.

Clijsters jumped out to a 4-2 lead and increased her advantage to 5-2 when Domachowska double faulted three times.

"She played a few really good games at the start," Clijsters said. "She was going for her shots and they were all going in."

After Domachowska held serve at love to make the score 5-3, Clijsters served out the set despite hitting one double fault.

Clijsters went on a roll to begin the second set as she won 12 of the first 14 points to take a 3-0 lead.

Domachowska did break serve in the fourth game to get on the scoreboard, but Clijsters broke back immediately to go up 4-1.

The Belgian hit two winners and took advantage of a pair of errors from Domachowska to hold serve and increase her lead to 5-1.

Domachowska served to stay in the match, but Clijsters had too much speed for the 19-year-old. Clijsters was able to track down a drop shot and return it for a winner to go up 30-0.

On the following point, Clijsters ran down a near winner by Domachowska and returned it with a deep lob.

Domachowska hit an overhead, but her attempt found the net to give Clijsters a 40-0 lead and three match points.

Clijsters punctuated the end of the match on the next point with a solid down the line backhand winner.

"In the second set it was a lot easier because she started to make a lot more unforced errors," Clijsters said.
