Ousts Golovin in First Round
Tatiana Golovin’s
debut at the Acura Classic was a short one as the talented 17-year-old
Frenchwoman was eliminated in a first-round match by Anna Chakvetadze
of Russia, 6-4, 6-4.
Playing on Stadium Court on Acura Classic Kid’s Day, the
hard-hitting Chakvetadze used an aggressive baseline game to win
the match in one-hour and 32 minutes.
Chakvetadze served for the first set at 5-4. On the tenth point
of the game, Golovin hit a backhand into the net to lose the set
6-4.
In the second set, Golovin double faulted on break point at 4-4
to give Chakvetadze a 5-4 lead.
As she served for the match, the Russian got to match point at
40-15 but netted a crosscourt backhand to make the score 40-30.
