Davenport Captures 2004 Acura Classic Title
In one of the most one-sided finals in tournament history, fourth-seeded Lindsay Davenport defeated Russia’s Anastasia Myskina, 6-1, 6-1, to win the 2004 Acura Classic.
Before a capacity crowd of 6,500 on Stadium Court at the La Costa Resort and Spa, Davenport needed only 48 minutes to wrap up the Acura Classic championship, which represents the 43rd WTA Tour title of her career.
After defeating her compatriot Vera Zvonareva in a thrilling semifinal late on Saturday night, Myskina simply did not have enough left to challenge Davenport, who had beaten Russia's Elena Dementieva in her semifinal match.
The hard-serving American quickly got off to a 5-0 lead over Myskina as she served two aces at 4-0, 30-30.
Minutes later, Davenport easily served out the set at 6-1 as she slammed an ace on set point.
In the second set, Davenport continued her domination of the Russian, as she did not face a single break point in winning the set in 23 minutes.
With a 5-1 lead, Davenport fell behind 30-love as Myskina served to stay in the match, But Davenport would go on to win the next four points to win the championship.
This was the second time Davenport won a title at the La Costa Resort and Spa. In 1998, she won the championship here by defeating Mary Pierce of France in the finals.
