Suarez Cruises Past Kapros to Reach Second Round
Argentina’s Paola Suarez is the best doubles player in the world, but on Sunday afternoon she put her high-caliber singles game on display as she dominated Aniko Kapros of Hungary, 6-1, 6-3, to advance to the second round of the 2004 Acura Classic.
In the last singles match of the day on Stadium Court, the ninth-seeded Suarez, wasted little time in winning the first set in 20 minutes as she broke Kapros’ serve three times.
Kapros only bright spot of the first set was when she broke Suarez at love in the third game.
After losing her serve in the first set, Suarez got her serve back on track and would go on to win 20 of the next 22 points in her service games.
In the second set, the Argentine raced out to a 5-1 lead before Kapros tried to rally by winning 11 of the next 13 points. However, the Hungarian could sustain her momentum as Suarez broke her serve at 5-3 to close out the match in 50 minutes.
