Castellvi Breezes Past Bradshaw in Opening Qualifying Round
Puerto Rico’s Vilmarie Castellvi took just 50 minutes to eliminate San Diego’s Allison Bradshaw, 6-1, 6-1, in a first-round Acura Classic qualifying match at the La Costa Resort and Spa.
Despite losing her serve twice, Castellvi controlled the match from start to finish. After winning the first set in 20 minutes, the Puerto Rican won 16 of 18 points in jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the second set.
At 5-1, Castellvi broke Bradshaw at love to end the match, which took place on Stadium Court.
Castellvi advances to the final qualifying round where she will play Marion Bartoli of France.
