Venus in Action During Wednesday’s Day Session; Sharapova to play Wednesday Night

Former three-time Acura Classic champion Venus Williams will face Virginie Razzano of France in her second-round match, which is scheduled as the third match of Wednesday’s day session on Stadium Court.
Williams defeated Razzano in straight sets in their only previous head-to-head meeting, which came in 2005 on carpet.
On Monday night before a large crowd on Stadium Court, Williams began her quest for the 2007 Acura Classic title with an impressive 6-0, 6-3 victory over Russian Anastasia Rodionova.
In other day session matches scheduled for Wednesday, Anna Chakvetadze, Daniela Hantuchova, Sania Mirza, Patty Schnyder, Dinara Safina, Tatiana Golovin will be among the tennis stars who will be in action.
Defending champion and top seeded Maria Sharapova will begin the defense of her Acura Classic title on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. She will face Tamarine Tanasugarn of Thailand in the first round.
These two players have faced each other only once before as Sharapova captured a straight set victory in Japan in 2004.
Sharapova, ranked number two in the world, came to the La Costa Resort and Spa a year ago and won five straight matches to capture the Acura Classic singles championship.
