Semifinal Matches Highlight Saturday’s Acura Classic Schedule

The semifinals are set! Defending champion Maria Sharapova will face fellow Russian Anna Chakvetadze at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday in the first semifinal. Sharapova had an impressive 6-2, 6-1, victory over Sania Mirza of India in her quarterfinal match.
Chakvetadze won a three-set thriller as she knocked out former three-time Acura Classic champion Venus Williams, 6-7 (5), 7- 6 (3), 6-2  in yesterday’s night match.
In the other semifinal, which begins at 6:30 p.m., Patty Schnyder will play Elena Dementieva. Schnyder eliminated Nadia Petrova, 6-2. 6-4, while Dementieva defeated Maria Kirilenko, 6-2, 6-4.

Cara Black and Liezel Huber, the top doubles seeds, will be in action following the Schnyder / Dementieva singles semifinal. Black and Huber will play their semifinal doubles match against Yung-Jan  and Chia-Jung Chuang of Chinese Taipei.
