With Four Players on the Court, It’s Double the Fun at the Acura Classic0

Top-seeded Cara Black of Zimbabwe and Liezel Huber of South Africa and second-seeded Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia and Ai Sugiyama of Japan headline a fantastic doubles draw at the 2007 Acura Classic.

Many of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour stars will be action on the doubles court this week at the La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad.

With 28 doubles teams competing for the 2007 Acura Classic doubles title, there are many interesting pairings that tennis fans will want to follow.

Argentina’s Gisela Dulko will team with Russian Maria Kirilenko, for a match against the sister team of Alona and Kateryna Bondarenko of the Ukraine. Dulko and Kirilenko, two of the tours young stars, are seeded sixth.

Vania King, the young American will pair with China’s Shuai Peng. They will face Germany’s Vanessa Henke and Ekaterina Makarova of Russia in the first round.
It’s not often when you see two Top Ten singles players playing doubles together, but that’s exactly what will happen when Jelena Jankovic of Serbia teams with Russian Nadia Petrova. They are seeded eighth and will take on Aiko Nakamura of Japan and Camille Pin of France.

If you want get a look at the future of American women’s tennis, you might want to watch two young Americans who were granted a wild card into the doubles competition. Floridian Ahsha Rolle and fifteen-year-old Brittany Augustine of nearby Carson, will face a stiff test in their first-round match as they face Russia’s Anna Chakvetadze and Victoria Azarenka of Belarus.

Another doubles team that will definitely be interesting to watch will be Dinara Safina of Russia and Tatiana Golovin of France who are unseeded. They will take on Lilia Osterloh of the United States and Angelique Kerber, Germany in the first round.

Sania Mirza of India and Shahar of Israel are seeded seventh. They teamed together at Wimbledon earlier this summer where they reached the third round and they come into the Acura Classic fresh off winning the doubles championship in Stanford. They will play Angelika Bachmann of Germany and Hana Sromova of the Czech Republic.
