American Ahsha Rolle played near flawless tennis as she defeated Iryna Kuryanovich, 6-1, 6-1 in a first-round qualifying match at the 2007 Acura Classic.
On a bright, sunny day on Stadium Court at the La Costa Resort and Spa, Rolle needed only 54 minutes to advance.
After dropping the opening game, Rolle won 14 of the next 15 points and went on to win the first set, 6-1 in 23 minutes.
In the second set, Rolle took a 2-1 lead and broke Kuryanovich’s serve after a 16-point game to increase her lead to 3-1.
Rolle dropped only five points in the last three games to close out the match.
- Rolle will face the winner of the Tatiana Poutchek / Ines Janbakhsh match in the second round.
- In January, Rolle won three matches to qualify for the main draw of the 2007 Australian Open.
- Rolle won her first professional title last September at the $75,000 USTA Pro Circuit event in Albuquerque.
- Kuryanovich is ranked 243 in the world.
- Earlier this summer, Kuryanovich reached the main draw of the Sony Ericcson WTA Tour event in Cincinnati as a qualifier.
