It was quite a day session on Thursday at the Acura Classic as Russians Maria Sharapova, Nadia Petrova, Anna Chakvetadze, Maria Kirilenko and Elena Dementieva all won third-round matches to advance to Friday’s quarterfinal round. Also winning matches were Patty Schnyder of Switzerland, who defeated fellow Swiss Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza, a straight set winner over Dinara Safina of Russia.
Leading off the Thursday night session on Stadium Court, former three-time Acura Classic champion Venus Williams will play her third-round match against Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia. Williams has won all eight of their previous head-to-head meetings.
