SAN DIEGO, CA, July 17, 2006 – Hilary Barte is the winner of the second of three 2006 Acura Classic “Opportunity Tournaments,” held July 12-15 at the Rancho San Clemente Tennis & Fitness Club. Her 6-2, 6-3 victory over Emma Murphy in the final earns her a Wild Card entry into the Acura Classic’s Qualifying Draw. Barte, a 17-year-old high school student who will begin her senior year at Harvard-Westlake School this fall, was named “Girls’ Tennis Player of the Year” by both the Los Angeles Times and the Los Angeles Daily News. She is currently ranked #1061 on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour.
The Acura Classic, to be held July 29th through August 6th at the La Costa Resort & Spa, will mark Barte’s debut in a WTA Tour event. “I’m really excited about playing at La Costa,” she says, “and I’m especially looking forward to seeing how my game measures up against some of the top women in the world.”
The remaining Acura Classic Opportunity Tournament will take place at the San Diego Tennis & Racquet Club from Wednesday, July 19th through Saturday, July 22nd, beginning with two rounds of action on Wednesday. Due to overwhelming interest, the event will feature an expanded 56-player draw.
