SAN DIEGO, CA, July 10, 2006 – Amanda Fink is the winner of the first of three 2006 Acura Classic “Opportunity Tournaments,” held July 5-9 at the Riviera Tennis Club. Her victory over Logan Hansen (6-3, 6-1) in the Opportunity Tournament final earns her a Wild Card entry into the Acura Classic’s Qualifying Draw. A 2005 graduate of Calabasas High School, Fink is currently ranked #1014 on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour and played #2 as a freshman at the University of Southern California this past year. This is the second year in a row that she has won an Acura Classic Opportunity Tournament. She lost to Yuliana Fedak of the Ukraine in the 1st round of qualifying last year.
Fink says she’s looking forward to competing at this year’s Acura Classic, to be held July 29th through August 6th at the La Costa Resort & Spa. She noted: “Winning last year’s Opportunity Tournament was the best experience I had all year, and I loved playing at La Costa.”
The two remaining Opportunity Tournaments are scheduled to take place at the Rancho San Clemente Tennis & Fitness Club July 11-15, and at the San Diego Tennis & Racquet Club July 19-23. Former Opportunity Tournament winners include local favorites Alexandra Stevenson and Angelica Gavaldon. In addition to Fink, last year’s winners included Lindsey Nelson and Biffy Kaufman.
