SAN DIEGO, CA, June 16, 2006 – Promotion Sports, Inc. today announced that after receiving a request from Serena Williams it has granted her a wild card entry into the Main Draw of the 2006 Acura Classic, to be held July 29 - August 6 at the La Costa Resort & Spa. Plagued by a knee injury, the seven-time Grand Slam champion has played in only one other tournament so far this year, the Australian Open. Her current world ranking is #104.

She will join an Acura Classic player field that includes many of the top-ranked stars on the Sony Ericsson WTA tour, including Maria Sharapova, Kim Clijsters, Nadia Petrova, Justine Henin-Hardenne, Mary Pierce, Lindsay Davenport, Elena Dementieva, Patty Schnyder, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Venus Williams.
Noted Promotion Sports' Raquel Giscafré: “We're very excited that Serena will be coming to the Acura Classic again this year, and we're delighted that she's finally recovered and is feeling well enough to get back in the game. While she has competed here twice before, she's very familiar with the tournament after coming to watch Venus many times. It's great for the fans to have her back on the court.”
