It’s a wrap.
The qualifying rounds of the 2005 Acura Classic have been completed
and eight qualifiers have moved into the main draw.
The eight players are Tathiana Garbin (Italy), Alina Jidkova (Russia),
Sania Mirza (India), Aiko Nakamura (Japan), Saori Obata (Japan),
Anastassia Rodionova (Russia), Maria Emilia Salerni (Argentina)
and Hana Sromova (Czech Republic).
Despite losing her final round qualifying match to Sromova 7-5,
3-6, 6-2, American Marissa Irvin got some good news as she entered
the main draw as a Lucky Loser when top-seeded Lindsay Davenport
withdrew from the tournament with a lower back injury.
Irvin will face 15th seeded Flavia Pennetta of Italy in her first-round
match.
