After a fantastic day session today at the 2005 Acura Classic,
fans attending the night session on Stadium Court are in for a big
treat. At 7 p.m., seventh-seeded Kim Clijsters of Belgium will make
her first Acura Classic appearance since reaching the finals here
in 2003. The Belgian will play Poland's Marta Domachowska.
In the final match of the evening, Elena Dementieva of Russia will
team with Tatiana Golovin of France for a first-round doubles match
against the American wildcard team of Biffy Kaufman and Lindsey
Nelson. Kaufman, a San Diegan, and Nelson, who hails from Orange
County, competed in the Acura Classic qualifying singles draw last
weekend after they each won an Acura Classic Opportunity Tournament
earlier this summer.
Among the winners during today's day session were Mary Pierce,
Patty Schnyder, Ai Sugiyama, Sania Mirza and Nathalie Dechy. Each
player advanced to the third round.
