SAN DIEGO, CA, July 26, 2005
– The Acura Classic (July 30-August 7) today announced that
its gala benefit dinner and auction to support the Scripps Polster
Breast Cancer Center is sold out for the evening of Thursday, August
4th. Organizers at Promotion Sports, Inc., which owns the Acura Classic,
expressed confidence that this year’s event will bring in record
donations for the Center, and are encouraging all tennis fans to participate
in the drive by either attending the tournament on August 4th and
donating at the “Fund-a-Mammogram” table in the Acura
Pavilion, or visiting the Acura Classic website (www.acuraclassic.com)
to donate if they’re not able to attend the event.
Some of the items to be auctioned at this year’s Benefit
Dinner include a romantic 7-day Caribbean Cruise, Super Bowl tickets,
a 3-night stay at the La Costa Resort & Spa, passes to “The
Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” airfare and tickets to the 2005
U.S. Open in New York, plus a Bose Entertainment System, a Sony
flat-screen TV, personal training packages and much more. In what
is becoming an Acura Classic tradition, the event’s host,
tennis legend Pam Shriver, will conduct a post-dinner live auction
on-court for attendees of the tournament’s night session.
Over the past two years, the Acura Classic’s Benefit for
Breast Cancer has raised approximately a half million dollars for
the Scripps Polster Breast Care Center. At last year’s event,
Lindsay Davenport, who went on to win the tournament, showed up
and auctioned an autographed tennis racquet she had used earlier
in the week. Since the Acura Classic underwrites the entire event,
every penny raised goes to the charity.
