Lindsay Davenport captured the 2004 Acura Classic title as she defeated Russia’s Anastasia Myskina, 6-1, 6-1, in the final before a capacity crowd of 6,500 on Stadium Court.
This was Davenport’s second title here at the La Costa Resort and Spa. In 1998 she defeated Mary Pierce of France in the finals.
Davenport, who lives in nearby Laguna Beach, is playing some of the best tennis of her career. The victory over Myskina, which was one of the most one-sided finals in tournament history, was Davenport’s 14th consecutive match victory.
She won the last two WTA Tour events in Stanford and Los Angeles before arriving this week in Carlsbad.
Davenport’s last loss was in the Wimbledon semifinals to Maria Sharapova of Russia.
Following her victory, Davenport was awarded a check for $224,000 and the keys to a brand new Acura TL.
